Scaramouche
We were sitting on Ailish talking through the stories we have heard in Cowes, when I spotted Scaramouche on a pontoon across the marina from us. I know of Scaramouche because Tom has always spoken so highly of Jon Holt’s vision at Greig City Academy. A school in the middle of the city, they bought a sailing boat from eBay, renovated it within the school workshops, and set up a sailing club! Listen to the recorded interview below, or read about their sailing trust here - https://scaramouchesailing.org.uk/
We headed out of Cowes in the early evening sunlight. Greig City Academy kindly offered James a lift on their rib, following us out into the Solent so that he could catch some footage of us sailing Ailish from afar. After a short period they drew up alongside us so he could climb back on board. It is extremely nerve wracking watching his camera pass onto the boat at any time, in particular now with the two vessels bobbing alongside each other. All was fine. We waved goodbye and continued out further from land, a route planned on the spur of the moment in response to the unexpected good weather.
